Sally Bretton, who plays Martha in the Death in Paradise spin-off Beyond Paradise, has admitted that she wasn’t ready to leave.

Sally Bretton, known for her role as Martha Lloyd—the fiancée of detective Humphrey Goodman (portrayed by Kris Marshall) in the hit BBC series Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise —has revealed she wasn’t quite ready to bid farewell to the show when she departed in 2017.

Sally made her entrance as Martha on Death in Paradise in 2017. She reunited with her old flame, Humphrey, on the island of Saint Marie.

Their romance rekindled, leading Humphrey to leave his detective work behind and move back to London to be with her.

During a previous chat on This Morning, Sally opened up about her time on the show, admitting she would’ve been more than happy to extend her stay.

When quizzed whether she was relieved to finish filming in the Caribbean, Sally firmly said: “No!”

“I was only out there for four or five weeks. I didn’t get any of the hurricanes, I got it at just the perfect time. I had an amazing time,” reports Daily Express.

Beyond Paradise sees Humphrey and Martha settling down in her native Shipton Abbott in Devon, with aspirations to grow their family.

Following a heartbreaking conclusion to their IVF attempts in the first series, the second and third series see the couple fostering instead.

Sally expressed her enthusiasm for reprising her role as Martha in the BBC One offshoot, seizing the opportunity when it arose.

“I was part of Kris’ exit storyline from the Caribbean and then we were in the first lockdown and the phone rang,” she shared with This Morning’s Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

“I was like, ‘Oh my God!’. Even if it doesn’t happen, it was just three weeks of thinking about that while the world had stopped. It was to have something to sink my teeth into.”

The series also features Open All Hours star Barbara Flynn as Martha’s mother, Anne, while Zahra Ahmadi portrays Humphrey’s colleague at the Shipton Abbott police force, DS Esther Williams.

Dylan Llewellyn and Felicity Montagu also play Humphrey’s colleagues.

Series three of Beyond Paradise is currently on screens, and Humphrey and Martha seem to be in a better place as they continue their fostering journey.

And despite Martha’s old flame, Archie (Jamie Bamber), making his return, the couple is stronger than ever.

However, during last night’s instalment, things took a turn for the worse for Anne, who found a suspicious mole on her back.

Beyond airs on Friday at 8pm on BBC One.
