BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent couldn’t resist calling out her co-star Jon Kay live on air during the latest instalment of the BBC news programme
BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent and Jon Kay returned to the small screen on Wednesday (16 April), delivering a fresh episode filled with the latest news, while Carol Kirkwood kept audiences updated with the weather.
The duo delved into the day’s newspapers, highlighting a study that piqued their interest about the heart health benefits for brisk walkers compared to those with a slower pace.
Sally shared insights from the research with viewers, saying: “Inside the papers today, here is a story that you will appreciate Jon. Did you know, that people who walk fast have better heart health? So, if you’re naturally quite a speedy walker, you are less likely to have, according to this latest survey, atrial fibrillation.”
She explained that atrial fibrillation involves an irregular or overly rapid heartbeat, noting that slow walkers might not reap the same health advantages from numerous steps.

Jon, chuckling, revealed to the audience why Sally picked out this particular piece: “The reason Sally has chosen this story is because everyday I struggle to keep up with her when she walks around the office.”
Their banter continued as they laughed together, with Sally confessing to being a “fast walker” and Jon playfully asking: “Are you feeling smug? Feeling healthy?!”
“Yeah, feeling like my heart might be super healthy and very happy,” Sally humorously remarked. “But, it is a little bit frustrating if you’re a fast walker and people are walking slowly on the pavements… that can be a little bit frustrating.”
Jon, sensing the comment was directed at him, responded in jest: “Anyone in particular? Name and shame!”
Sally then playfully retorted: “But you’re too busy chatting to people! That’s what it is.”
The light-hearted exchange concluded with both Sally and Jon trying to stifle their giggles before they handed over to their colleague Nick Johnson for an update on another unfolding story, reports the Express.
In other segments of Wednesday’s BBC Breakfast, viewers were updated on the latest dip in petrol prices, The Tree Council’s ongoing campaign, and sports updates from John Watson.
Sally and Jon are the regular hosts of BBC Breakfast from Monday to Wednesday, while Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty take over for the latter part of the week.
BBC Breakfast airs on weekdays at 6am on BBC One
