Former Manchester United player Ashley Young is an Amazon Prime pundit alongside Wayne Rooney for Aston Villa vs Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League

Any Manchester United fans tuning in to the Champions League quarter-final second leg between Aston Villa and Paris Saint-Germain will spot a familiar figure on their screens.

Ashley Young is at Villa Park alongside Wayne Rooney for Amazon Prime Video during their coverage on Tuesday night. Despite still playing for Everton, Young is already beginning his broadcasting career.

However, the former England international is nearing the end of his contract, which will expire soon after he celebrates his 40th birthday. Young’s playing days now appear numbered, but his son Tyler is just beginning his professional journey with Peterborough United.

After starting at the Arsenal academy – the club his father supports – at age 7, he had stints at Milton Keynes Dons and Queens Park Rangers before signing with Posh last summer, following a successful trial with the first team during pre-season.

The young midfielder debuted during the EFL Trophy group stages against Stevenage – the town of his birth. He has also been named on the bench four other times without making another appearance.

Earlier in the year, Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson received criticism for not bringing Tyler on in their FA Cup third-round tie against Everton. A father and son have never played against each other in the competition’s 154-year existence.

After the match, Ferguson explained: “It was very difficult to leave Tyler on the bench, but I’ve got to do what I think is best for the team.”

“As much as I wanted Tyler to get on, if the game had been 2-0 at that point, I would’ve put him on, but at 1-0, I had to get a forward on. I’ve got to try and get something out of the game and do what is best for my team.”

He also dealt with an unsavoury episode involving an Everton player: “One of their [Everton] players had a pop at me, which was bang out of order,” Ferguson claimed. “We are not a charity case.”

Shortly thereafter, Lewis, Tyler’s younger brother, stood on the sideline at The Den, taking caretaker charge of Dagenham and Redbridge in their game against Millwall. He has now inked a two-and-a-half-year deal to proceed with his management career.

Another younger sibling, Kyle Young, a former Arsenal and Watford academy player, is now in the Hitchin Sunday Football League with Squirrel Taverners. Meanwhile, details concerning his wife, Nicky Pike, are scarce.

They started dating at school and planned to tie the knot in 2011, the year Young moved from Villa to United. However, they abruptly called off the scheduled £200,000 nuptials at The Grove Hotel in Watford with just two days to spare.

After a brief split, the couple reunited and said their vows four years later in an understated ceremony at Stoke Place Hotel in Buckinghamshire. At that time, Tyler was 10, and the pair also have a younger daughter named Ellearana.

Young is an alumnus of Saint John Henry Newman, notably the same school Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton attended. The two were in the same year group and got on well, even playing together for the school football team. Young has previously stated that Hamilton fancied himself as the more talented footballer during their school days.

On that matter, Young remarked: “He (Hamilton) said he was a better footballer than me, but I think he’s better at his driving.” Asked further, Young conceded: “No, he weren’t too bad. He was an alright player.”
