Here’s what you need to know:
Thanks to this self tanner, shoppers can slap on the SPF and still enjoy golden skin
As the weather begins to warm up and people start digging out their summer clothes again, going bare-legged can seem daunting after a winter spent covered up. But shoppers wanting to give pale limbs a pep up without going to a tanning salon are in luck.
Amazon is currently selling the 4.4 starred Bondi Sands Everyday Gradual Tanning Milk 375ml for £9.66 down from £14.49 – that’s 33% off (all prices correct at time of writing) – and shoppers are praising it for having a better result than sunbeds.
This product, which smells sweetly of cocoa butter, is enriched with vitamin D and aloe vera and is suitable for sensitive skin. It’s designed to provide a natural looking glow after one to three days of use, but should be applied to dry, exfoliated skin for the best results. Plus, it’s vegan and cruelty-free, and helps keep skin hydrated as well as bronzed.

For a cheap and cheerful alternative, Boots has the Dove Summer Revived Light to Medium Gradual Tanning Lotion For Face and Body All Skin Types 75ml for £2.09. Use it like a daily moisturiser, but with an added sunkissed-glow, and handily, this product doesn’t leave skin feeling too sticky. Or shoppers can try the Effn Gel Crème Gradual Tan Light – Medium 300Ml from Superdrug. It is slightly pricier, costing £19.49, and can be used on the face and body. This one is a gel and should feel super lightweight on the skin when applied.
One shopper said: “After years of sunbeds and failed fake tanning lotions I’ve finally found one that works so well I’ve quit the sunbeds. Smells lovely, leaves skin feeling great and builds a really nice tan over a few days. Lasts a long time as well, only used half a bottle in a month. Fantastic product, will definitely buy more.”
A second said: “It’s light, goes on easy, gets absorbed quickly and is subtle enough that you can layer it over a few days without looking dirty and/or freakish. I’ve also forgotten to wash it off my palms, and it didn’t show too badly.”
Another added: “I’ve tried a lot of gradual tanners and so far this seems to be the best. The only issue I have with every gradual tanner, including this one, is that you try to build the tan too dark it does turn orangey. In my experience and from what I’ve read it’s a gradual tanner thing and its inevitable, the tanning creams that you put on and then wash off for an instant tan do tend to give a more natural brown tan and don’t tend to lean orange, I think this will always be an issue with the gradual tanners but with that being said the reason this one seems to be the best gradual tanner I’ve found is because if I have built it up too much it doesn’t seem to go as orangey as others, plus it seems to do this magic thing whereby if it has gone a tad orange and I then have a shower it tones down the orange and leaves it a more natural looking tan. It’s really bizarre, and I’m not talking even washing my skin, I mean just letting the water run over my body, it seems to tone down the orange and take it back to a more natural looking tan. I don’t know if anybody else has experienced this, but it’s kinda magic.”
However, one did say: “Overall, I would say it’s a great product. I do find if you apply too much of a thick layer, the next time you apply be careful as too much buildup becomes patchy and peels.”
Another customer said: “It’s the smell, too biscuity for me, but the product as a whole I can’t fault at all. Great consistency to the cream, good absorption and results are amazing.”
For a natural-looking tan without the skin damage, the Bondi Sands Everyday Gradual Tanning Milk 375ml seems like a great buy.
