Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has sent a message on social media following Thursday night’s dramatic Europa League quarter-final second-leg win over Lyon.

United overturned a two-goal deficit within the space of six extra-time minutes to confirm their spot in the semi-final. Two late goals by Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire, in the 120th and 121st minute, led to chaotic scenes inside Old Trafford.

The victory keeps United’s dreams of ending the 2024/25 season with a trophy. Ruben Amorim’s side are set to endure their worst-ever Premier League finish but winning the Europa League for the first time since 2017 would see them qualify for the Champions League.

Players, past and present, have been responding to Thursday night’s memorable result and Garnacho has taken to social media to thank the supporters for the atmosphere created inside Old Trafford.

Alongside nine photos of Thursday’s win, he wrote: “*mind-blown face emoji* What a team. What a fans. What a stadium. That’s why it is called the Theatre of Dreams *red love heart emoji*.

“See you in Bilbao!” Just as it did against Lyon, Old Trafford’s atmosphere could play a massive part in United’s semi-final second leg against Athletic Bilbao. The first-leg takes place in Spain on Thursday, May 1 before the two sides meet again on Thursday, May 8.

Garnacho and his United teammates will no doubt be hoping fans can replicate the atmosphere inside Old Trafford on Thursday night during the jubilant scenes in extra-time. The Argentinian started for United alongside Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund in attack.

He assisted Manuel Ugarte’s opener in the 10th minute with a cut-back before being replaced by Christian Eriksen in the 100th minute. Teammates Mason Mount, Ayden Heaven, Ugarte, Patrick Dorgu, Andre Onana and Diogo Dalot all liked Garnacho’s post, alongside ex-United star Mason Greenwood.
