Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer believes Wolves will beat Manchester United as the Premier League icon has claimed he hasn’t been ‘impressed’ with Ruben Amorim’s side. United are looking to build on their dramatic win over Lyon in the Europa League in midweek as they booked their place in the semi-final with two stoppage-time goal in extra-time.

Sunday’s visitors are one of the in-form teams in the division after a turnaround under new manager Vitor Pereira.

Only Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Liverpool have picked up more points (15) than Wolves, who have four win and one draw in their last five which has created a 14-point buffer to the relegation zone.

Due to United’s energy-sapping encounter with the Ligue 1 side in midweek and a poor season in general, Shearer admits it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Midlands club return to Molineux with three points.

“Tough one to call after Man United went to extra time in the Europa League,” he told Betfair.

“Wolves are flying and playing great football.“I’ll go for an away win.

“I’m really not impressed with Man United at all this season so it wouldn’t surprise me if Wolves went to Old Trafford and won.”

By the end of the weekend, United could slip as low as 15th with the possibility of moving level on points with Sunday’s opponents for Wolves.

Tottenham Hotspur play Nottingham Forest on Monday and a win for Ange Postecoglou’s side, who also progressed in Europe on Thursday, would see them leapfrog Everton and United into 13th, should Amorim suffer a 13th defeat since taking charge.

The Europa League holds incredible importance to United, knowing a win would see them qualify for the Champions League as a result.

They find themselves in a similar situation to last season when Erik ten Hag led the club to an eighth-placed finish but secured qualification for Europe after beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
