The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood has shared her diagnosis ahead of the season 3 finale.

Aimee Lou Wood, 31, star of The White Lotus season 3, has candidly shared her experiences with neurodivergence and her recent diagnosis as the show approaches its finale.

The latest instalment of Mike White’s acclaimed series, set against the backdrop of Thailand, delves into the lives of affluent Americans and the employees at a luxurious hotel chain.

With a cast featuring Walton Goggins, Parker Posey, K-Pop icon Lisa, and Jason Isaacs, several actors have garnered attention this season.

Aimee, who has captured hearts with her portrayal of the lovelorn Chelsea, opened up about her ADHD diagnosis and “autistic traits” in an interview.

Ahead of the season’s final episode, which premieres tonight in the US and tomorrow in the UK, the Stockport-born actress, known for her role in Sex Education, spoke to The Sunday Times regarding her neurodiversity.

She revealed: “I got diagnosed a few years ago with ADHD with autistic traits. But then it’s been advised that I should go for an autism assessment.

“They think that maybe it’s autism that’s leading the charge, and the ADHD is almost a by-product of the masking.”

Similar to British star Bella Ramsey, who received an autism diagnosis post-filming HBO’s The Last of Us season 1, Aimee’s neurodivergent diagnosis came after her childhood years.

Reflecting on her past, she described herself as “almost mute” and “very socially anxious” during her younger days, and how sitting down for a meal was a challenge.

Aimee shared her experiences with filming nude scenes, revealing that her time working on Netflix’s Sex Education left her feeling “quite vulnerable” due to being asked to do more explicit scenes than her co-stars.

However, she praised the supportive environment on the set of The White Lotus, where she had open and helpful conversations with her female co-stars before filming intimate scenes, which made her feel “less alone”.

Reflecting on her past struggles with body image, Aimee confided: “When I was younger and I was dealing with my eating stuff, it was my worst nightmare to get my body out.”

However, after working through those issues, she found herself reverting to covering up, which led to a process of desexualising herself. “Sometimes you just want to put on a sexy dress and be a siren, but I denied myself that,” she explained.

Aimee’s notable roles include Tracey in Netflix’s Toxic Town, Gemma in Daddy Issues, and Margaret in the film Living, reports the Mirror US.

The White Lotus season 3 continues Sundays on HBO and the following Monday on Sky Go and NOW.
