She has bought a property in Pollensa, northern Mallorca

A Place in the Sun star Laura Hamilton has bought a property in Mallorca and is urging others to do the same as she admitted “I wish I’d done it sooner”.

Laura, 42, has bought a run-down property in the heart of Pollensa, northern Mallorca, to renovate. She shared a picture on social media platform Instagram wearing a high-vis jacket holding a drill as she wrote: “My Renovation in the Sun in Mallorca begins.”

The property expert and TV personality, from Kent, has spoken to Spanish news site Majorca Daily Bulletin about her big move. Despite being her 20th renovation project, it is her first one overseas.

“I’ve never done a renovation overseas, so it’s very much a learning process,” Laura told Majorca Daily Bulletin. She continued: “I’ve already learnt so much through the buying process, how it all works and I’m loving the fact that as I go through the process I’m going to be able to help educate people along the way.”

Discussing why more Brits are leaving the UK, Laura explained this could be due to more flexible working patterns. She said: “People are now looking at options with regard to leaving the UK. People have a much greater flexibility to work from home, so if you can work remotely then why not do it in a beautiful destination with great weather like Mallorca.”

Explaining why she chose Pollensa for her first overseas renovation project, Laura told Majorca Daily Bulletin: “I opted for Pollensa because I wanted somewhere which was going to be all year round.

“I’m a real outdoor person, I love cycling for example, and I suddenly liked the idea of being in a town where I could literally step out of my front door and within minutes be by the cafés, bars and shops. For the time being, I don’t plan to live here.”

Discussing why so many people want to leave the UK and move to places like Mallorca, Laura said the thinks that people often want to escape the grey, rainy weather the UK is so bitterly known for.

Issuing a message to Brits considering buying a property abroad, Laura said: “I’d say to anyone who is thinking about buying abroad to just do it. In a way I feel gutted that I left it as long as I did. I wish I’d done it sooner, but then at the same time I’m like well I’m doing it now and I’ve got a good few years left in me yet to enjoy it.”

The property expert has been a presenter on the Channel 4 show since 2011, making her the second-longest serving presenter behind Jasmine Harman.

The presenter has filmed episodes of the show in locations across the globe and her personality has made her a fan-favourite on the show with a large social media following of over 200K.

Laura announced in 2023 that she and her former spouse Alex Goward had parted ways after a nine-year marriage. The pair are parents to two children: Rocco and Tahlia
