There is only something as satisfactory for a film like a room full of laughs, and it is an entire room between sobs and tears. And so the BCN Film Festivalwith an inaugural film, ‘A Like of Bob Trevino‘, that in addition to very emotional and sensitive, of those that load your shoulders with the sentimental weight of its characters, it is enormously modern, lucid, human, fun and tracker of all those lacks and abundances of today’s society, especially the one that is in the process of maturation.

Its director and screenwriter is Tracie Laymonwhich has only done a couple of feature films, and its protagonists are Barbie Ferreira and John Leguizamowhich make up two magnificent characters and full of readings. She, Lily Trevino, is an unhappy young woman, depressed and with very little love around her, her drug addict disappeared and her father, Bob Trevino, is a ruin and mindless guy; And he, John Leguizamo, who is also called Bob Trevino, begins being a Facebook profile but soon becomes a person worthy of knowing her Lily and knowing her all, one of those basic and deep characters that enrich any argument.

Tracy Laymon observes in depth and without giving up the sense of humor to her characters, the empty life of the young and little graceful Lily and the relationship she maintains with her father (excellent actor French Stewart), an authentic selfish and exploited guy who does not return her a paternal gesture to her efforts to have him close; His cartoon is so extreme that it is even funny. And the life of Lily’s new friend, someone so understanding and close, and who is called the same as her father, that she in a way needs to supplant him.

It is impossible not to surrender to the emotional charms of those two characters who approach cautiously but also in need of relief, comfort, to share their shortcomings. Very well interpreted by Barbie Ferreira, so open, explosive, emotional, and by Leguizamo, noble, rudimentary, sensitive, capable of expressing the pride he feels for his deceased baby (he was born with an incurable disease with which there is no more than a year and a half) and he managed to endure 21 months. The film comes captivating to an apotheosic outcome, overflowing with emotions, with which an edition of the festival is inaugurated in a highly spongy way, the ninth.

Until it closes with ‘The irresponsible‘, A comedy by Laura Mañá starring Laia Marull, Betsi Túrnez and Agata Roca, the festival proposes some other interesting titles that we point out.
