Crunchyroll has issued a Tune-In Alert for isekai fantasy-loving anime fans. The new feature film Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom makes its streaming debut today, following a successful theatrical run last Fall. The 132-minute movie from the hit Overlord anime series drops on the platform at 5 p.m. PT.
Set in the future, the Overlord series begins when the popular MMORPG Yggdrasil is quietly shut down, and one player named Momonga decides not to log out. He remains behind as a skeleton wizard who rules over the virtual world, where the NPCs begin to develop free will.
Synopsis: The Sacred Kingdom enjoyed years of peace after the construction of an enormous wall, but one day that comes to an end. The Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth arrives with an army of villainous demi-humans, forcing the Slane Theocracy to beg their enemies in the Sorcerer Kingdom for help. Helmed by the Sorcerer King Ains Ooal Gown, the undead army joins the fight to defeat Jaldabaoth once and for all.
Animated by Madhouse and distributed by Kadokawa Animation, Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom is written and directed by Naoyuki Ito, based on the original light novel series written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin, who handled original character design and monster design (with K-SUWABE) for the movie.
The creative team also included character designer/chief animation director Satoshi Tasaki, color designer Yukie Noguchi, 3D director Kazuya Oya (Graphinica), DP Yoshio Watanabe and editor Mariko Tsukatsune. Shuji Katayama (Team-MAX) handled the original music; the theme song is “Wheeler-Dealer” by OxT.
