Lycoris Recoil was one of the more popular anime of 2022, and unfortunately, it looks like a season 2 isn’t necessarily in the cards. The series was mix of the “cute girls doing cute things” genre and the “girls with guns” action genre, feeling much like a 2000s throwback. It got some exposure in 2024 with a Toonami airing. We may not be getting a new season, but we are getting some shorts.
Lycoris Recoil: Friends are Thieves of Time is a series of six shorts that will start streaming one short a week starting April 16 and streaming new shorts each Wednesday. They will be streaming on Crunchyroll and Aniplex’s official Youtube channel. The shorts include “Take it Easy,” “Miles Away,” “Scintillation of Genius,” “Watch Out,” and “Bittersweet First Love, and “Best Respite.” The shorts confirmed to be in the slice-of-life genre, so it seems like these will be focusing more on protagonists Chisato and Hakina’s adorable friendship than the hard boiled action. Crunchyroll’s Official synopsis of Lycoris Recoil:
“For these peaceful days――there’s a secret behind it all.
A secret organization that prevents crimes: “DA – Direct Attack”. And their group of all-girl agents: “Lycoris”. This peaceful everyday life is all thanks to these young girls. The elite Chisato Nishikigi is the strongest Lycoris agent of all time. Alongside is Takina Inoue, the talented but mysterious Lycoris. They work together at one of its branches–Café LycoReco.
Here, the orders this café takes range from coffee and sweets to childcare, shopping, teaching Japanese to foreign students, etc. It’s mostly tasks unbefitting of Lycoris.
The free-spirited and optimistic pacifist, Chisato. And the cool- 
headed and efficient Takina. The chaotic everyday lives of this mismatched duo begin!”
Most likely, these shorts will be released with Japanese audio only as shorts and OVAs often tend to not receive dubs. Still, we are getting some new Lycoris Recoil content even if it’s not a proper season 2.
