I sadly wasn’t able to pay for my hostel stay but I promised I would write a review, so here it is!
If you’re needing a place to stay after an amazing hike through Grayson, than look no further than Troutdale’s hostel, Harbor Site Inn.
The unsuspecting bunk house is breathtaking. We were told it used to be a dentist office. We didn’t get to stay in it as it was closed due to no water but we were able to explore it. It looks small from the outside, but previous owner put in a lot of money to fill every space to make it a comfortable place to stay. Would have loved to stay in the bunk house and will have to come back once the bunk house reopens. Even if the microwave is broken…
There’s a solution to everything.
My hiking buddy and I were fortunate to be the only ones on site at the time and we got a ride to dollar general and then into Marion for some lunch from the wonderful lady who is running the hostel, Phyllis. Ask her about her story. She might not have hiked the trail but she welcomes hikers with open arms.
She gave a fabulous tour of the quaint little hostel that turned out to not be so little. The main building used to be a doctors office and was unsuspecting until you opened the door at the end of the hallway. It opened up into a lovely living room and a bonus room which was turned into a gym/massage room/hikers hangout. The internet works well enough to get Netflix on the TV too!
This is definitely a must stay on my list of hostels to return to when I get the chance to thru-hike the trail at some point. This hostel is also cash only due to some technical difficulties but they are willing to take you to the bank if you need cash.
