Cinesite announced today on its website that it is staffing up for Brad Bird’s upcoming film Ray Gunn, a neo-noir sci-fi that was originally developed as a hand-drawn feature at Turner Animation in the mid-1990s.

Cinesite is working on the film with Skydance Animation, which is where Bird is producing the film. The film is currently set to be released by Netflix, which became the distributor of Skydance’s animated films in 2023.

No new details about the film were released, but Cinesite pointed out that production is already underway. This suggests that Ray Gunn could become Skydance’s fourth animated feature in 2026, following Luck, Spellbound, and the upcoming Nathan Greno film Pookoo, set to debut on Netflix later this year. (Skydance Animation owns its own studio in Madrid; it is not known how the work is being divided up between Cinesite and Skydance Animation Madrid.)
