The Manchester United loanee was in action for Aston Villa during their memorable Champions League victory over Club Brugge.
A number of Manchester United stars have shown their support to Marcus Rashford after Aston Villa qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
The Villans defeated Club Brugge 3-0 on Wednesday night to rubber-stamp a 6-1 win on aggregate. Rashford, who played the entire game, didn’t get on the score-sheet, but did assist Marco Asensio for his second goal of the night.
To celebrate the occasion, Rashford took to Instagram and shared some pictures. He wrote: “Qualified,” followed by a tick emoji.
The post was then ‘liked’ by Joshua Zirkzee, Diogo Dalot, Ethan Wheatley and Alejandro Garnacho. Rashford and Villa will now face Paris Saint-Germain in the next round, with the first leg taking place at Parc des Princes at the start of next month.
Villa head coach Unai Emery will return to the place which he previously coached prior to joining Arsenal in 2018. “To play in the quarter-final is fantastic,” the Spanish manager said.
“We are excited and motivated. To play against PSG will be very difficult as they showed their capacity against Liverpool, the best team in Europe until yesterday. To play against PSG is special because I didn’t go back there since leaving. It will be fantastic.”
United, meanwhile, will also look to book a spot in the quarter-finals of the Europa League when they host Real Sociedad at Old Trafford this evening. Ruben Amorim’s side drew 1-1 in the first leg in San Sebastian with Zirkzee scoring the only goal for the visitors.
Amorim confirmed Mason Mount, Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire will miss the clash due to injury. They join Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo and Amad in their Carrington treatment room.
However, Amorim confirmed Maguire and Yoro’s injuries are not longer-term. “Maguire, I hope to have him for Sunday [against Leicester City], before adding: “No, no [Yoro’s absence] is not long-term. Leny cannot play this game and the other game [Leicester],” the Portuguese added.
